Orion is the latest Molecular Kitchen in Pune. What I like about the molecular gastronomy kitchen is the science that goes into their recipes. Orion has an array of dishes apart from the usual Liquid Nitrogen dishes we usually find in molecular kitchens.
What I Had
These days, many are making use of cinammon in their cocktails. This whiskey based cocktail had cinammon ash in it and to intensify the flavor, a whole cinammon stick was also added.
Now this was one surprising yet delicious cocktail I had in a really long time. Very creamy and thick due to the Bailey’s it had. Definitely worth the try.
This cocktail is a twist to the classic margarita cocktail with the punchy addition of tamarind to it. If you like sour flavours, give it a try.
An interesting blend of Paan and Spirits. This was a bit strong for my liking.
3 Mushroom Liquid with Air Dried Mushrooms
Undoubtedly the best creamy mushroom soup I have tried. The use of air dried mushrooms gives it the perfect molecular gastranomic touch. It is perfectly balanced and worth trying.
Indian Spiced Pumpkin Veloute
Veloute, which means velvet is a thick sauce from which a variety of sauces can be made. This pumpkin veloute with Indian spices was innovative and delicious at the same time.
Golden Fried Prawns
These were crispy golden fried prawns served with it’s sauce in the form of a foam.
Chicken Kandhari Kebab
A nice tender kebab prepared in kandhari style making use of pomegranate as one of it’s ingredients.
Paneer Makhmali Rolls
Paneer rolls marinated in the rich makhmali ingredients and cooked to perfection with beetroot as the main ingredient and it’s sauce in the form of a foam.
Pumpkin Ravioli in Sage Butter
Ravioli is a kind of a pasta dumpling. Sheets of pasta are sealed together with a filling in it. This was one of the best Raviolis I have tried.
This Risotto is cooked in beetroot broth and is perfectly creamy and cheesy.
Smoked Chicken Ravioli
I liked this one more than the Pumpkin Ravioli. The sauce was perfect and so was the smokiness.
Chicken Katsu Kare
Katsu Kare is a Japanese staple with deep fried meat. The sauce usually consists of soy sauce, herbs, spices and stock.
This had a good taste but could have been served with some extra quantity of Rabdi.
Abhishek, the owner of the place has stories to tell about the celestial and planetary theme which the restaurant has. The ambience is unusual but amazing. The ceiling is the best part of the place.
Overall an amazing and VFM gastronomic experience.
